The aim of this project is to formulate a detailed concept of a secondary school for arts and crafts, specialising in educating professionals who could work in theatre, film and television. Long-term neglect in this area has resulted in many cultural institutions finding it difficult to hire a carpenter, painter or property master who would bring in expertise in the field combined with practical skills. Establishing a technical secondary school that could train specialists in unique and disappearing professions is therefore a strategically important task.
The aim of the proposed technical secondary school should be to provide solutions allowing acknowledged masters to share their knowledge and experience in the field of arts and crafts. Another vital element seems to be enabling students to practically test their skills in theatres and film studios. The school should also build its own model workshops. The third element of the whole concept is to initiate collaboration with art designers, directors or producers in order for the students to gain experience and build up professional contacts.
The technical secondary school will be the first fully complementary educational institution in Poland. It will provide an answer to the growing tendency for abandoning comprehensive education in favour of vocational training.
